Greetings,
I am LIM Siyong, Director of the Korea Institute for Non-Traditional Maritime Security (KINMS).

The ocean is no longer a stage for conventional naval conflict alone. Today, we face a wide array of non-traditional maritime threats—climate change, drug trafficking, illegal fishing, human trafficking, cyber risks—that transcend borders and demand collaborative solutions.

KINMS was established to respond systematically to these emerging challenges and to promote a sustainable maritime order through international cooperation and strategic research.

We are committed to supporting Korea’s maritime security diplomacy and fostering practical collaboration, education, and policy innovation with partner nations and organizations around the world.

Together with experts, policymakers, and frontline practitioners, we aim to shape a safer, more resilient maritime future.

비전통해양안보전략연구소(KINMS) 소장 임시용 입니다.

해양은 더 이상 전통적인 군사 충돌만의 공간이 아닙니다. 기후위기, 마약 밀수, 불법어업, 해양 인신매매, 사이버 위협 등 전 지구적 차원의 복합적 해양위협이 우리 사회와 미래를 위협하고 있습니다.

우리 연구소는 이러한 비전통 해양안보 이슈에 체계적으로 대응하고, 국내외 협력 기반의 지속가능한 해양질서 구축을 목표로 설립되었습니다.

우리는 대한민국의 해양안보 외교를 전략적으로 뒷받침하고, 파트너 국가들과의 실질적 협력과 교육, 정책 연구를 통해 해양의 평화와 회복탄력성을 함께 만들어 가고자 합니다.

국내외 전문가, 정책결정자, 현장 실무자 여러분과 함께 KINMS가 해양안보의 새로운 길을 개척해 나가길 기대합니다.
